Eagle Feathers Used For Healing Ritual

A Tool For Well-Being

Ritual is a technology known and utilized in indigenous cultures for the spiritual and physical well-being of the community and the individuals within it, as well as fostering right relationship with the world of spirit.  Ritual can be used to connect with the mystery, to celebrate spirit, to ask for blessings and to bring about change.  It is a technology that is largely misunderstood, if not completely forgotten, in our modern world.

The Elements Of Authentic Ritual

Several elements constitute true ritual – things like a defined space, intentions and plans for the ritual itself.  But the one element that more than anything defines ritual is the unknown.

In true ritual, we must be open to and allow space for the unexpected.  We must allow ourselves to be moved by the flow of consciousness through ourselves and through the ritual space, altering our plans if necessary.  It is from the unknown that the connection with spirit arrives.  Our total openness to what is allows revelation, opens our consciousness and brings about change.

Without inviting and embracing the unknown, ritual is simply a ceremony, beautiful in its own right, but lacking the technology of change.

Book - The Wild Edge of Sorrow by Francis Weller

In his brilliant and important book, The Wild Edge of Sorrow, Francis Weller does such a tremendous job of illuminating the benefits of ritual that I figured I’d borrow a few of his words here.  According to Weller, there are three primary functions of ritual:

“The first function of ritual is to enable us to become transparent to the transcendent.  It fosters our link to the great mystery [and] we call upon this mysterious presence to help us do the work we cannot do alone.

Secondly, there is a reparative function to ritual.  It sutures the tears in the soul that occur in daily rounds of living.

The Third function of ritual is that it invites the denied and forgotten aspects of psyche to show up, those abandoned parts of who we are.”

The Use Of Ritual In My Healing Work

My understanding of ritual and its use is rooted in my 7-year journey of initiation and mentoring into the Andean shamanic lineage and is very present in my work.

Well sessions, divination readings and the elemental journeys are all heavily steeped in the technology of ritual.  Despacho offerings are an Andean shamanic ritual, and the hut is a center for ritual, utilizing the transformative power of fire.

I also offer a very beautiful and transformational ritual for grief.

Custom Healing Rituals

In addition to the healing offerings listed on this site, I can create custom rituals for specific needs and desires.  Often these rituals are created from a divination reading, where we are guided as to what element or elements need to be infused with energy into your life to bring about healing or changes in your current circumstances.

If you have questions about ritual or want to discuss a custom ritual, I’d love to hear from you.

THE TREE RITUAL

This ritual, adapted from a Himalayan ritual, is deeply energetically clearing.

It’s especially good for times when you feel particularly heavy or energetically gunked up.

Using rope incense, a rattle, rice and the great-grandmother eucalyptus tree in the middle of our property, this ritual steadily works to clear all layers of stuck or heavy energy, leaving you feeling clear and refreshed.
